The 2024-2025 school year marks my sixth year as principal of LBJ High School and my 10th year with JCISD. I am proud of the accomplishments the students have made at LBJ during my tenure. This is the direct result of great teachers and staff as well as a supportive community and parents. LBJ High School maintains a rural school feel while offering students a wide array of opportunities in both academic and extracurricular areas.
I was born in Austin, Texas, and earned a bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Texas and a master's degree in Education Administration from the University of Virginia. I have 30 years of experience in public education. Prior to Johnson City, I had the opportunity to work in Southside, Lake Travis, Hays, and Austin Independent School Districts in addition to 6 years in Virginia. Before coming to LBJ High School, I served 10 years as a middle school principal, 4 years as a middle school assistant principal, and 2 years as a high school assistant principal. I started my career as a special education teacher at the elementary and middle school levels.
I look forward to this year and continuing our mission to create a safe and positive learning environment where students have the opportunity to excel through a wide range of academic, extracurricular, and athletic offerings. Do not hesitate to contact me if you ever have a question, concern, or just want to share a great idea.
Respectfully,
Russell Maedgen, Principal
LBJ High School
