There will be two solar eclipses that affect Blanco County. The annular eclipse will occur this Saturday, 10/14, at 11:52 AM and a total eclipse will take place on April 8, 2024. Both eclipses are extremely dangerous to look at without eclipse glasses. The Blanco County Friends of the Night Sky is providing free eclipse glasses to all students , teachers, and staff. FEMA Emergency Alert on 10/4/23-
Starting at approximately 1:20 p.m., all cell phones across the country will sound an alarm and display a message reading, “THIS IS A TEST of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is needed.”
The message will display for 30 minutes, but phones will only play an audio tone, similar to that of an Amber Alert, at the start of the 30-minute window. On most cellphone models, that tone will stop as soon as users click a button, according to FEMA. Phones that are off throughout the 30 minutes won’t receive the emergency message.
